Northwestern College was picked second in both preseason polls announced today at the end of the 2015 GPAC Football Media Day held at the Marina Inn located in Sioux City, Iowa. 

The Red Raiders totaled 73 points and earned one first place vote in the coaches' poll, finishing second behind Morningside with 81 points and nine first place votes. Northwestern also was picked second behind Morningside in the media poll, totaling 80 points compared to the 90 points for the Mustangs. Doane was picked third in both polls, followed by either Hastings and Dakota Wesleyan depending on the poll.

Kyle Achterhoff returns for his seventh season as the Red Raiders' head coach and guided his team to the 2014 GPAC Championship, sharing the title with Morningside, with an 8-1 record. Achterhoff returns 19 starters, seven on offense, eight on defense and all four on special teams, along with 41 letterwinners. Northwestern opens the season on the road against Tabor under the lights in Hillsboro, Kan. on Sept. 5.

Northwestern College earned a spot in the NAIA Football Coaches' preseason top 25 poll announced by the national office earlier today. 

The Red Raiders held down the 12th spot in the initial ranking of the 2015 season, the same ranking they held in the final poll of the 2014 season. Northwestern joins two other GPAC teams, Morningside (3) and Doane (T22). 

Defending champion Southern Oregon and national runner-up Marian (Ind.) share the top spot in the preseason poll, totaling 304 points each. Following Morningside, Saint Xavier (Ill.) and Carroll (Mont.) round out the top five.
