NSAA FOOTBALL PRESEASON POLL - 2015 NSAA FOOTBALL MEDIA GUIDE

MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University football team was picked to finish fifth in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Coaches' Preseason Poll, announced Monday.

Valley City State (N.D.), who was the 2014 NSAA Football Conference Champions with a 6-0 conference record, was the favorite to win the league title for the third straight year.  The Vikings totaled 33 points in the poll and collected five first-place votes.  Dickinson State (N.D.) earned the final two first-place votes to finish second with 30 points.  Jamestown (N.D.) was third with 26 points.

Presentation (S.D.) had a slim margin over Dakota State (S.D.) for the fourth-place spot.  The Saints recorded 21 points while the Trojans had 20 points.  Waldorf (Iowa) was predicted to finish fifth with 10 points, while Mayville State (N.D.) was picked to finish last with 7 points.

The preseason poll was voted by the league coaches.  Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.  To earn an automatic bid to the NAIA Football National Playoffs, a team need to be in the 'Top 20' in the national poll and win the conference title.

Dakota State – with nine offensive and eight defensive starters returning from last season – finished their 2014 season with an overall record of 6-5, their most victories and their first winning season since 1998.  The Trojans were 2-4 record in the NSAA conference play last season.

DSU opens their 2015 campaign – under the guidance of seventh year head coach Josh Anderson – on Saturday, Aug. 29.  The Trojans kick off their three-game home stand at Trojan Field versus long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).  Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.

Dakota State begins their NSAA conference play on Sept. 12 versus Waldorf (Iowa) at Trojan Field.  The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.  The Trojans will play in the NSAA Football Bowl game in the final regular-season NSAA conference game on Nov. 8 at the FargoDome.
