Northwestern College earned a spot in the NAIA Football Coaches' preseason top 25 poll announced by the national office earlier today.

The Red Raiders held down the 12th spot in the initial ranking of the 2015 season, the same ranking they held in the final poll of the 2014 season. Northwestern joins two other GPAC teams, Morningside (3) and Doane (T22).

Defending champion Southern Oregon and national runner-up Marian (Ind.) share the top spot in the preseason poll, totaling 304 points each. Following Morningside, Saint Xavier (Ill.) and Carroll (Mont.) round out the top five.

Kyle Achterhoff returns for his seventh season as the Red Raiders' head coach and guided his team to the 2014 GPAC Championship, sharing the title with Morningside, with an 8-1 record. Achterhoff returns 19 starters, seven on offense, eight on defense and all four on special teams, along with 41 letterwinners. Northwestern opens the season on the road against 22nd-ranked Tabor under the lights in Hillsboro, Kan. on Sept. 5.
