Wayland Baptist is picked to finish fifth in the Central States Football League, according to a poll of the league's head coach and sports information directors. The Pioneers came in one point behind league newcomer Arizona Christian.

The CSFL features seven teams this season, having lost Oklahoma Baptist (NCAA Division II) while adding Arizona Christian and Lyon College of Batesville, Ark.

Wayland took fourth place last year in a six-team CSFL. The Pioneers finished 3-8 overall and 2-3 in conference.

Langston University was voted as the top team for the third consecutive season. Langston received a total of 60 votes, including all but two of the 14 first-place votes.

Langston was eight points ahead of Southwestern Assemblies of God University, which received the other two first-place votes. Bacone College was third with 37 points, and only one point separated Arizona Christian and Wayland. Lyon received 19 points to rank in the sixth spot and Texas College rounded out the poll with 17 points.

The Pioneers open the season by hosting Southwestern College (Kan.) on Aug. 29.
